There is anotlier method of calculating the exact date. When the Imam Ahmad was killed, Gaiawdcwos had been on the throne eight davs under two years and six months. As . '\l)yssinian months have each thirty days, this means two years and one hundred and seventy-two days. Gaiaw- dcwos' father, Lebna Dengel, died on September 2nd, 1 540 ; from that day to the end of 1540 there were one hundred and twenty days, which leaves two years and fifty-two days.
