PREPARATION OF /3-NAPHTHOQUINONE-4-SULPHONIC ACID. Twenty grammes of a-ami...no-/3-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid are ground up with 30 c. C. Of 23 per cent, nitric acid. When the reaction is over, hot water is added until solution takes place. Some insoluble impurities are removed by nitration, and the resulting filtrate then treated with potas- sium chloride until no more precipitation takes place. The potassium salt of the quinone sulphonic acid is then filtered off, washed with cold water, and recrystallised from alcohol. Yield 84 per cent.
