As if that weren’t enough, her bloodshot eyes confirm her lack of sleep.
It seems the indefatigable chief of staff never went home last night.
They sit inside a conference room in the operations center below the White House, at opposite ends of a long table. The vice president would have preferred to hold the meeting in her private office in the West Wing, but she was sent underground last night as part of the continuity-of-government protocol, and she sees no reason to rock that boat ri
...ght now.
    “Where’s Alex Trimble?” she asks.
“He’s not available, Madam Vice President.” Her eyes narrow. That squint, her aides used to tell her, was what everyone feared the most, her steely but silent way of communicating her unhappiness with an answer.

It followed the usual predictable lines, including the very last second "rescue".
The kind of story where the end was already known before the beginning. A oor subject to write about, and I'm left puzzled as to what literary or "expert" aid Clnto gave. One good thing is that the move by move sex scenes were absent, also the spectacle of the very sunptuous meals complete with vintge champagnes and brandies, cost ing in the thousands, were absent. We do not need a step by step description of every move, every unrobing, every bite eaten, every entry into and out of a room detailed step-by-step...otherwise we'll succumb to the mindless rage which accompanies that 3 Stooges skit "Niagara Falls"...Spare us more of this crap. Oh yes, also spare us the puzzlement of figuring out how ordinary public servants on restricted salaries can afford such constant high living, and especially daily alcohol guzzling. It might thrill the ignorant but not the logical folks.

Seeing that it's Clinton , I'd say that if he's missing he's in a hotel room somewhere with a couple of women.. Not at all like the all action, all encompassing character the book portrays as President.
