In the decline of the seventh century, on the resignation of King Wamba, the Spanish bishops assembled at the instance of his successor, Ervigius, who sought at their hands the ratification of his title : and on the depo- sition of Louis by his son Lothaire, a French Council lent its sanction to the measure.
