In my view, consequently, the word soul (ame) designates, not a special essence distinct from the body, but a special function of the brain, the psycho- logical function. Further, all our sentiments being merely agreeable or disagreeable mental images, and action being the necessary resultant of the dominant sentiment, at once we realize the predominance of the psychic function.
