What am I ? A reasonable creature ! Born to die ; perhaps to night ; or to-morrow ; it may be a week ; or in a month, or next year. I cannot tell when ; all that I am sure of, is, that I must die ; and that I have a soul which will live for ever. Awful thought ! To be happy or miserable for ever !
All this I am convinced of in my mind. I know also that I am a sinner by nature and by practice, and therefore an enemy to God by wicked works, Col. i. 21. A child of w...rath, and an heir of hell. What fearful truths ! But still, rejoice my soul, and listen to good tidings of great joy, made known to poor sinners in the bible ; that God who is rich in mercy, not willing that any should perish, so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life, John iii. 16. 1 may be reconciled to God, through faith in Jesus Christ, who died in the place of sinners, and hath obtained forgiveness of sins, for them that repent and believe in his name.
