The persons fitted to be priests are not those who are distinguished by wealth or birth, but rather those wh...o are known for their love of the gods and men. They shall be held accountable for their actions. If they do wrong, they shall be punished.
But so long as they hold their position, they deserve the respect of all men. They shall take their turn at the offering of sacrifice, and for the required number of days they shall give thar undivided energy to the sacred tasks. They shall be of spotless purity both in mind and body. They shall be not merely ceremonially pure; they shall practice chastity and real holiness.
