RE-ARRANGEMENT OF POLLING DISTRICTS. 303 against a person in respect of the offence of a Sect. 88. Corrupt or illegal practice, or any other offence under the Corrupt Practices Prevention Acts, must be commenced within one year after the offence was committed, or if it was committed in reference to an election with respect to which an inquiry is held by election commissioners shall be commenced within one year after the offence was committed,
...or within three months after the report of such commissioners is made, whichever period last expires, so that it be commenced within two years after the offence was com- mitted (u). In the case of offences under the Ballot Act, 1872, dealt with under I. And II. On pp. 285 287, supra, there is no limit of time within which proceedings must be commenced.
By sect. 38 of the present Act, this period shall be reckoned as from the date on which the person charged returned to the United King- dom next after the commission of the offence.
