A nd the prospective diner from Petersham side Stood aghast as he gazed on the swift-rolling tide. Though his temper was short, he omitted to swear, But his grievance was voiced to a popular air !
FROM Petersham came I to Twickenham Ferry (There's plenty of mud, the stream running down !) I see not a boat, so I'm not feeling merry Though asked out to dinner at Twickenham town ; They dine at, I'm certain, a quarter to eight I gaze at the mud-banks bemoaning my fate ; There is not a skiff, or a punt, or a wherry, Or chance of my dining at Twickenham town !
