What reading level is The Shaksperian Stage book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Porcius discovers a bed, and a sword hanging by it which he takes downe." SPECIAL FEATURES OF STAGING 145 Wit without Money, V, 4. Some one is knocking at the door for admittance, and Valentine says, "fling up the bed and let her in." In neither of these scenes was the bed neces- sarily used ; and had there not been a passing mention of it, we should not have known that this piece of furniture was on the stage. It is possible that a bed or couch formed part of the setting of many a scene, even ...though there is no notice of it in the text.
In the discovered scenes it is always possible that the bed was moved forward during the action, whether or not there are stage directions to this efEect. In the following examples, the bed was discovered, and yet drawn in at the close, which shows that it was drawn forward sometime during the action.
Four Plays in One, The Triumph of Love, Scene 4. "Enter Violante in a Bed; Angelina and Dorothea sitting by her." But at the close Angelina says, " Draw in the Bed nearer the Fire, and silken Rest, tie all thy Cares up." "Exeunt." Monsieur Thomas, V, i.
