First opened for the recep- tion of foundlings, January, 1870, by Dr. Shipman. One of the most inter- esting, as it is one of the most deserving charities in the city. The found- ling...s average about 100, and range in age from the newly- born to twelve months. They are usually adopted or redeemed by their parents before reaching one year. The Home depends solely upon voluntary contributions for support, but is now so well known and so widely appreciated that it does not suffer the old sorrows of destitution and misery. [Dr. Shipman died early in 1893. ] Free Labor Bureau. Location, 167 Washington st. Under the auspices of the Building Trades Council. Employers may procure, without cost, competent mechanics in any of the building trades.
