There were no hospitals in those days, and the doctors were ignorant and unskilled ; for it is only in Christian lands that homes of healing and men properly trained to care for the sick are found. Into the midst of this ...crowd of sufferers Jesus came like an angel of light. He cured all who sought His aid, and often He healed sore hearts as well by His tender sympathy. The Jews had read how the ancient prophets had worked some miracles, but they had never heard of one who was so kind and patient and powerful in delivering people from suffering. They could not help admiring the Great Healer. It was no wonder, for the like has never been seen before or since. Wherever He went crowds flocked to Him. Many stories of His compas- sion and healing power have been preserved for us.
