To a solution of i g. Of 2, 4-diphenyl thiophene in 200 cc. Of 95% al- cohol add 10 g. Of a 33% solution of sodium acetate and 50 g. Of a cold saturated solution of mercuric chloride. Mix well and allow to stand.
