Chapter II. Nature of souls.
Souls exist either as conjoined to matter or as free from con- tact with it. In the former state the nature of the souls suffers from great limitations, which matter puts it under. Hence the nature of the souls will be conveniently ti*eated in two separate sections, the first deahng with the nature of the souls in themselves, and the second with that of the souls implicated in matter.
