This view forms the subject of the etching, whilst the sketch on the previous page, looking back towards the railway-bridge, gives the reverse of the picture.
Cookham can certainly be numbered amongst those places which do not fall short of their reputation. The village street, the old-fashioned inn, "...Bel and the Dragon," and the open green, recall forcibly the pictures of Frederick Walker, whose brush, during his frequent sojourns here, was inspired by the quiet and homely charm which surrounds the village. He now rests peacefully in the churchyard.
Again, the view from the bridge, looking upon the river with the tower and glorious beech woods of Hedsor in the background, forms fi prospect which has few equals in the scenery of the Thames.
