The winds were all in mute fubmiffion hufh'd : And now Serena, from th' exalted car, Look'd down, aflonifh'd, on each finking ftar ; 108 THE TRIUMPHS Flying o'er lucid orbs, wbofe diftant light Yet has not reached the icope of human fight ; And now, not diflant from the bounds of ^oe^ The guardian fprite fuijpends their rapid race ; And, while in deep amaze the nymph admixes The circling meteors' inofiEenfive fires, Pleas'd at her wonder, the mild power addxcft, With kind intelligence, her earthly gueft :— - *' Of thofe three orbs, that in yon cryftal ^here A leparate lyfiem in themielves appear, The lail, whofe luminous and fleady form Shines foftly bright, and moderately warm.
