It was also apparent that they could no longer be classed as a sect of the Jews. D., he promulgated a law that might be used by local governors against the Christians. When the crowds in the theatres shouted, " To the lions with the Christians," it became legal for the local ruler, if he thought the peace of the district demanded it, to yield to the demands of the multitude.
