Through the kindness of Prof. Dr. Zirkel and Dr. Lenk, I was also able to examine slides of the basalts from the Eifel, and the Spahler Berg and Sparbrod on the Ehon, and establish the identity of these occurrences with my own. The exception spoken of is the oblique extinction which almost all the writers observed, varying from " parallel or little inclined " (van Werveke) to maxima of 20 (Hyland) and 25 (Doss), the usual extinction angle lying between 7 and 15.
