These are sometimes found in the King's highway, but they differ from real pilgrims in two points : 1 They never strive against wind and tide. 2 They are always most zealous for religion 114 THE WAY OF SALVATION when it walks in silver slippers. They patro- nize piety when the sun shines on it and people applaud it. It is contrary to their nature to uphold a weak and struggling cause. They go with the crowd and float upon the current of popular favor.
