The memorandum of association defines the objects for which the Corporation is established as : (1) To take over the property and liabilities of the Company, which was registered 18 April 1857 under the name of the Working Men's College.

...rs as shall enable artisans to attend the classes. . . . The Articles of Association provide that the Members of the Corporation shall not exceed fifteen, and that all Members to supply vacancies shall be elected by the Corporation in General Meeting. The Members are elected for life.
The articles also recite that the composition of the Council is regulated by the resolutions passed by it on April 2, 1873, and further provides that the government of the College, including the expenditure of its income for the time being, shall be vested in the Council of the College, subject to the power of the Corporation in general meeting to make regulations from time to time for any of the following purposes : A TEANSITION PERIOD 115 (1) Limiting the fees (if any) to be paid by students, so as to keep the classes within the reach of artisans.
