This legal controversy arose in the Orphans' Court of Prince George's County.
The Circuit Court of that County sent it to Charles County for trial. On appeal, it went to the state Court of Appeals, which confirmed the decision in the lower court. Again decided by the Court of Appeals, it was taken to the United States Federal Court of Maryland, then twice argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.
