Deliberate, as if the business were your own (which in reality it is), how you may administer relief to the miserable who fall under your notice : conceive yourself in their situations, and sympathize with their sorrows. Be assured it will divert that strict attention to your own misery, which forms no inconsiderable part of the misery itself, and will supply you with a source of positive enjoyment, to which your most private thoughts and coolest reflexion will give a reiterated approbation.
