To that man who would stop the victorious banners of the armies of the Union, by cavilling at the proclamation of emancipation, I would answer that it was six months after the head of the nation had invoked the "considerate judg- ment of mankind and the gracious favor of Almighty God, " on that proclamation, before — standing by the unnumbered graves of our dead in the nation's cemetery — we could say, "of the two great efforts to enslave the English race in body and mind, the first met its grave at Marston Moor, the second at Gettysburg.
