The -cassiterite is sporadic in its distribution, and samples of the pegmatite assayed from a trace to o -316 per cent, of metallic tin. Prospecting in this district has so far met with disappointing results.
TRANSVAAL. The Waterberg tin fields in north-western Transvaal include the Potgietersrust tin field (Zaaiplaats, Roodepoort, Groenfontein, Solomon's Temple, etc. ), the Nylstroom tin field (Doornhoek, Kromkloof, Welgevonden), the Warmbaths tin field (Zwartkloof, Elandsfontein, Witfon- tein..., etc. ), and the Rooiberg tin field. All these localities lie on the eastern and southern margins of a geological basin, the central portion of which is composed of sandstones and con- glomerates of Upper Waterberg age, constituting the Waterberg plateau. Below the escarpment of these beds is a belt of Lower Waterberg felsites with interbedded shales (and quart- zites in the Rooiberg), overlying the Red Granite and the Norite of the Bush veld Plutonic Complex. Beyond the out- TRANSVAAL 53 crop of these lie the Older Granite and the quartzites and dolomites of the Transvaal System.
