That was not the first meeting at which anything took place as to the purchase of property in New Zealand or Australia. That had been referred to as early as 17th August of the previous year. At the meeting on 26th July, 1877, there was a deliberation by the Directors, at which 1 was not present. There is an entry in the agenda book in the handwriting of Mr. Inglis — "' Purchase of property in New Zealand and Australia. " When I was called in I received a draft resolution which I would be instructed to engross in the book, and it is initialed by the chairman.
