Verschiedene Versuche mit Natronlauge oder Schwefel- säure ergaben schlechte Resultate, denn es konnte kein ein- heitliches Produkt in festem Zustande isoliert werden. Die besten Resultate erhielt ich mit Salzsäure.
Es wurden 4 gr. Chlorhydrat der Base I mit 40 cm."* 20 prozentiger Salzsäure 3 Stunden am Rückfluss gekocht.
Das Chlorhydrat löst sich nach 7^ stündigem Kochen voll- ständig... auf.
Die Lösung wird sodann mit Soda bis zur saffrosin- neutralen Reaktion versetzt, wobei sich ein krystallinisches Chlorhydrat ausschied. Dasselbe unterscheidet sich von dem der Base I dadurch, dass es in Salzsäure sehr leicht löslich ist. Wegen der überaus grossen Löslichkeit konnte es nicht umkrystallisiert werden. Versuche, die freie Base des ver- seiften Produktes darzustellen, ergaben ein negatives Resultat, da nach Zusatz von Alkali die Base wohl in fast farblosen Flocken ausfiel, sich aber sofort unter Verschmierung braun- schwarz färbte.
