The female, by accepting the most virile male, as shown by his fine form, gaudy colors, and his triumph over his rivals, thus insures the same qualities in her offspring, and thus produces favorable variations in such off- spring, which being inherited from generation to gen- eration, builds up a race of increasing strength.
