What reading level is Weeds Simple Lessons for Children book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Each of the hairs often bears numerous short branches, Seeds and their Ways 43 and a compound structure is thus produced which forms a very efficient air-drag. To take an illustration. If we were rowing a boat, it would give us very little trouble to tow a log of wood. But if for the log of wood we substitute a bush of the same weight, the resistance which the numerous branches and twigs offer to being dragged through the water would greatly diminish the speed of our boat. So it is with seeds w...hich have a para- chute of hairs, or pappus, attached to them. The well-known Spear Thistle (Carduus lanceolatus) has a compara- tively heavy seed, to which a large and beautiful pappus is attached. The seed alone falls quite fast, at least 15 feet in a second, but Fig. 7. Seed of Dandelion. En- larged.

with the pappus attached this speed is reduced to less than one foot per second. The pappus alone is so light 44 Seeds and their Ways that it falls less than half a foot per second ; it is the pappuses of this and allied species, when detached from the seeds, that we see blowing about all over the country, and often entering railway carriages when we are travelling.
