General Lincoln, who commanded the continental forces in the southern department, sent a detach...ment under General Ashe across the Savannah, to repress the incursions of the enemy, and confine them to the low country near the sea coast. The surprise and defeat of this detachment by Prevost, completed the subjugation of Georgia.
