WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST? 1 55 How can we suppose, if he were the supreme God, the source, possessor, and dispenser of all glory, that he should pray to another and higher being for that glory which he already possessed ? It is really to accuse Christ of prevari- cation, whatever the intention may be. And the case is not at all relieved of these elements, if it is said that he prayed unto himself ; for, as supreme God, he had no need to pray unto himself: it was only a mockery of true prayer.
