After escaping from the deadly peril of one shipwreck, and being almost involved in another as sudden a...nd fraught with possi- bilities equally tragic and fatal, the chief among them were selected to undergo the disquieting experience of trial by Court-Martial. That was when at last they reached home. The step was in accordance with an invariable rule of the Naval service. It was primd facie evident that there was no person on whom any responsibility for the loss of the ship could rest, all the senior Naval officers on board having unhappily perished at the post of duty ; so that the Court assembled to investigate the conduct of these survivors at the wreck was really a matter of form.
