Gray, was born in Tennessee in Januar}-, 1S29, went to Ohio when a youth, and became a resident of Delaware county, Ind. , in early manhood, locating in the town- ship of Salem, where he carried on farming for several years. Later he embarked in the mercantile business at Daleville, where he car- ried on a fairly successful trade for twenty- eight years, removing, at the end of that time, to the city of Anderson, where he engaged in the sale of buggies and carriages.
