Their hunting is confined to the kangaroo, wild pig, and cassowary, these being the only animals there are to hunt in New Guinea. Kangaroos are caught with strong nets, into which they are driven by setting fire to the long grass in front of the nets, the natives guarding the sides to prevent their escape, and so driving them into the semicircle formed by the net. The ends are then drawn together and the circle gradually lessened, surrounded by the natives, who, when the circle becomes small enough, commence a general slaughter.
