CLINICAL DIRECTOR AND PATHOLOGIST'S REPORT.
To the Superintendent and Trustees of the Taunton State Hospital.
The clinical director and pathologist respectfully reports as follows for the work in his departments during the past year.
Clinical Research.
First. — The treatment of general paralysis and cerebral syphilis was undertaken in co-operation with the pathological department of the Commission on Mental Diseases. This work has not as yet been fully organized... in this hospital, and there- fore no definite report can be made. It may briefly be said that a brilliantly useful field of work has now been opened by the recent developments in the use of salvarsan in nervous syphilis.
Second. — Concerning the inheritance of insanity, a very ex- tensive research commenced a year ago was carried out. The paper containing the results of this research is to be published in the "American Journal of Insanity," and was read in'part before the Boston Society of Psychiatry and Neurology.
