Wir haben nur einen flüchtigen Blick in dieses Werk thun können, welches sich hauptsächlich mit der Greschicht« der äbyssinischen Race und mit den Sitten und Gebräu- chen des Volks zu beschäftigen scheint. Die beigefügten Bilder und einige topographische Karten sind sehr schön ausgeführt Phatagraphic View af Kgypt, Pasi and Präsent, By Jaseph P. Thanpsaa. / VoL Illustrated, Einer Lungenkrankheit wegen fand der Verf. sich veranlasst, eine Reise nach Egyp- ten zu machen, wo die Aerzte ihm Heilung... in Aussicht stellten. Er brachte desshalb im Anfange des Jahres 1858 drei Monate auf dem Nil zu, wo er hinreichend Müsse und Ge- legenheit hatte, die Scenerie des Landes, dus Aeussere des egyptischen Lebens und einige der grossen geschichtlichen Denkmäler, woran das Land so reich ist, kennen zu lernen.
Grossen wissenschaftlichen Werth scheint das Werk gerade nicht zu haben, indessen sind die Beschreibungen lebhaft und die Abbildungen nicht schlecht.
Unter den neuerpchienenen geschichtlichen Werken müssen wir vor Allem hervor- heben : TUrty Veart View, or a History of the Working of the American Government for thirly Years, from 1821 to 1860^ chießy laken from the Congress Debates, the private Papers of General Jackson and the Speeches of Exsenator Benion , with his actual View of Men and Affairs.
