The stone arrived at Jerusalem while I was still there, and the director of the museum, as a special honor, when the original in- scription was unboxed, asked me to select a place for it in the museum and to put it in that place with my own hands. I did so. It was a pretty heavy job, being all that I could do to lift the stone. The story has one further sequel. When I was in Jerusalem in 1919-20 the Zionist authorities, who are anxious to establish in Jerusalem a museum which shall contain all antiquities from Palestine, asked me, as I had been instrumental in placing the Siloam stone in Constantinople, now to co-operate in securing its return, that it might be 176 Bible and Spade placed in the new museum in Jerusalem.
