The ligamentum longitudinale anterius descends on the anterior and lateral surfaces of the hodies of the vertebrae. It begins as a narrow tough band at the tuberculum pharjmgeum ossis occipitalis (see Figs. 215 and 221), is fastened to the tuberculum anterius atlantis, then goes to the anterior surface of the epistropheus and thence to all of the bodies of the vertebrae as far as the upper part of the facies pelvina ossis sacri, where it becomes lost in the periosteum.
