Her fields of labor have been Washington, D. C, Hampton, Va. , and Charleston, S. C, where she is now laboring. Her schools have elicited the warmest commendations from Gen. Howard of the Freedmen's Bureau. Enthusiastically devoted to her mis- sion, with kindness of heart, a self-sacrificing spirit, and pos- sessed of natural tact and spiritual fitness, she could not but accomplish a good work and bring much honor to Christ. Some fifteen or twenty members of this church have entered the ministr...y, besides nearly as many others who have be- come the wives of clergymen.
This church has also sent out a few of her number into the foreign missionary field. Miss Caroline Wood, daughter of Ezra Wood, married Rev. (now Dr. ) Samuel Wolcott, of Cleveland, O. , who with his wife served under the American Board, for a number of years in Turkey. Mary A. Sawyer, granddaughter of Rev. Mr. Rice, a former pastor, married 46 Rev. W. C. Jackson, a very successful teacher in the Acad- emy in this town ; and under whose labors an interesting religious awakening was enjoyed among the students.
