This Act, as modified by the Sporting Lands Rating (Scotland) Act, 1886 (49 Vict. C. 15), the Statute Law Revision Act, 1892 (55 and 56 Vict. C. 19), and the Lands Valuation (Scotland) Act, 1902, (2 Edw. VII. C. 25), declares that the expression " lands and heritages " shall extend to and include " all lands, houses, shootings, and deer forests, fishings, woods, copse, and underwood from which revenue is actually deri\'efl, ferries, piers, harljours, quays, wharfs, docks, canals, railways, mine...s, minerals, quarries, coalworks, waterworks, limeworks, brickworks, ironworks, gasworks, factories, and all buildings and per- tinents thereof, and all machinery fixed or attached to any lands or heritages (including in any building occupied for any trade, business, or manufacturing process, all machinery, machines, or plant, in or on the lands or heritages for i^roducing or transmitting, first, motive power, or for heating or lighting such building, Ijut, save as thus pro- vided, not including machines, tools, or appliances which are only so fixed that they can be removed from their 2ilace without necessitating the removal of any part of the building), jjrovided always that no mine or quarry shall be assessed unless it has been worked during some part of the year to which such assessment applies.
