Colonel Fellows seemed in his element, and went on even in ad- vance of the skirmishers. A battery had been placed on the hill just mentioned, and commenced shelling the retreating rebels.
We advanced through a wood, skirting the mill-pond, and just on the farther edge of the wood, where we struck the country road, we came upon a deserted rebel camp, the fire still burning, and in the ashes of which many roasted sweet potatoes were found.
