A variation of the first or falling type is the 'convex' type, i. e., one in which the curve rises a little at first (decrease in errors) and then shows an un...broken drop (con- stant increase in errors). Finally, the fourth or 'concave' type of curve may be considered as a vari- ant of the second or rising type ; in it, efficiency falls at first, then continues to rise to the end of the work, i. e., the errors increase at first, and then steadily de- crease (Cf. Blazek, also Kenlsies, Arheitshyg. 17 and Arbeitstypen). It is possible to regard these pecu- liarities in the general shape of the work-curve as due simply to individual differences in type of fa- 76 MENTAL FATIGUE tigue ; in that case, the curves would really be curves of fatigue.
