A reaction in allergic persons will occur within five to 30 minutes and will be shown by welt- ing or a more severe skin reaction at the site of the skin test. In general, the shorter the interval between in- jection and the beginning of the skin reaction, the greater the sensitivity.

Then, conditions and severity of the snakebite symptoms must be weighed against the hazards of reaction to the serum. FIRST AID FOR ENVENOMATION If medical aid is available within 4 hours: 1. Place the victim at rest.
2. Completely immobilize the part of the body that has been bitten.
3. Transport immediately to medical help.
If medical aid is more than 4 hours away or the envenomation appears to be catastrophic 1.
