A significant portion of those appropriations must go towards reducing a billion dollar backlog in needed medical equipment. Funding diverted from its original pur- pose and lack of a reliable tracking system for medical equipment has created a growing accumulation of unpurchased new and replacement equipment. The backlog of unpurchased equipment is compromising VAs ability to provide quality care.
