This involves large expense of first cost and risk of storage beside, and at best answers for a time only. The other remedy is to stereotype each num- ber, and from the stereotype plates print, from time to time, new editions as may be required. With the plates preserved, a corner would be impossible. Stereotyping, I am told, will increase the cost of the first edition about one-third ; after editions will cost only for paper, press work, binding, etc.
I respectfully suggest, therefore, that if... the State intends to continue the control of the printing and sale of its Supreme Court Reports, that the printer be instructed henceforth to stereotype them.
So much for future Reports.
As to past Reports, I beg leave to inform your Excellency, with the request that you will lay the information before the General Assembly, that Mr. W. S. Mason has offered me for the State a large number of Reports at one dollar and sixty cents per volume all around, each volume to be perfect and to be bound. ^ It seems to me that there can be no doubt that this is an advantageous offer for the State, if it continues to supply Re- ports, and I therefore recommend its acceptance.
