Having surveyed the posture of the various Native states, and the feeble condition or de- pendency to which most of them were reduced and the qua- lity as well as extent, of that power and influence which the French had built up — let us turn to examine what were the means and resources which supported the Company through the arduous career upon which they were about to enter.
