Lord Mornington, now Lord Wellesley, then rose, and proposed, that the year 1793 be substituted in place of the year 1800, for the entire abolition of the trade. This amend ment was lost by a majority of 49. And, on the 27th of the same month, Mr. Dun das having moved, that the trade should cease in 1800, Lord Mornington moved, that the year 1795 should be substituted for the year 1800. This amendment was also lost by a majority of 40 ; when Sir J. Knatch- bull moved, that the year 1796 should be substituted for the year 1800, and this last amendment was carried by a majority of 19.
