B. Palmer. I had very little to do, however, till she was launched, as her hull was not completed, but I went to the ship yard every day, being greatly interested in the work. I wanted to be launched in the ship. However, I had a jolly crowd to take care of and we had a fine lunch, cham- pagne and cigars on board, and a better view of the launch- ing than they had from the shore. It was a splendid sight to see that huge craft slide down the ways into her native element.
