The moral law may rule the body and its members, but has no right to any allegiance from the soul. * In any personal and historical estimate of Luther there would be much to say in palliation of these monstrous positions ; it would be easy to show their connec- tion with some of the noblest characteristics of his genius, and their antagonism to some of the worst features of his times.
