Mr. Okerberg was married in this city January 7, 1853, to Johanna Peterson, a native of Sweden, who came to America in 1852. They have a family of seven chil- dren — Emma, wife of August Elmgreen, of Moline; Matilda, wife of John Buford, of Moline; Eric O. , who now conducts the jewelry business; Jennie, wife of Andrew W. Anderson, of Moline; Rosa, wife of Charles P. Heine, who for thirteen years has held a responsible position in the recorder's office of Chicago; Frank Oscar, a jeweler and wat
...ch maker, who is engaged in busi- ness in Sherrard; and Nellie, at home.
Mr. Okerberg is a man of independent views, who on questions of politics exercises the right of forming his own opinions and of supporting those interests which he be- lieves calculated for the best government. During the days of the war he supported the Republican party, afterward he voted for Peter Cooper, and in 1896 voted the Re- publican ticket, and may be said to be inde- pendent. He served as trustee of the vil- lage before the organization of the city of Moline, has been alderman one term, and city treasurer two years, but has never sought nor desired public office.
