' "° Wright:ihMid]been Settled on Mature Consideration of the Applica- tions made by Colonels Brown & GrierSon, & of the very Critical & Alarming Situation of affairs in this Province, and without Some Steps are Immediately taken, I am Clearly of Opinion that this Province Will be Broke up & Ruined. If you should think Proper ...to Approve of this MAY, 1781. 503 Measure, I am Informed by Major Dell of the Militia that there is Plenty of Cattle, but no Bread.

Sir I am this Instant honoured with your Excellencys Let- ter Inclosing a Copy of the Minutes of Council.
It would give me Infinite Pleasure Could I adopt with Propriety, & Consistent with my duty, the Measure Fro- posed, but the Weak State of this Garrison by the large Detachment Carried to S* Augustine with Colonel Clarke, Renders it Impossible.
